Suspected gunman was in custody after allegedly opening fire on a group of Los Angeles police officers Friday night, wounding one, in what LAPD Chief Charlie Beck described as an ambush by a “coward.” Beck said on Twitter on Saturday morning that the gunman fired from a “significant distance” in an unprovoked attack.
Sacramento police say a bicyclist is in critical condition after veering out of a bike lane on Northgate Boulevard and colliding with a car Friday night. Just before 10 p.m., Sacramento police responded to the 3200 block of Northgate Boulevard for a collision involving a bicyclist and a car. According police, both the car and bike were traveling northbound on Northgate Boulevard, when the bike veered out of the bike lane, colliding with the car.
Police were on scene of a shooting at Mellis Park in West Modesto, where one person was shot and killed just before noon Saturday. Officer Heather Graves with the Modesto Police Department reports a man and the suspect were in an altercation, which led to the fatal shooting.
A suspect connected to an officer-involved shooting in the Winnetka area Saturday evening was transported to a hospital, police said. The suspect's condition was unknown, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a tweet at 10:08 p.m. Officials have not confirmed whether any officers were injured.
