A Modesto, California, mother was arrested after she left her 11-year-old son and 39 cats unattended in a moving van in 100-degree heat at an Oakdale motel, police said Monday. Officers were called about 4 p.m. Sunday to a Motel 6 at 825 East F St. to help a woman, identified as Heidi Gusman, 51, who was hysterically trying to get help for her sick cats, according to the Oakdale police department.
Two Pacific Surfliner trains were delated Monday night, after a fatal incident on the tracks between Old Town and Sorrento Valley. Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit responded to the collision at 7:21 p.m. The crash happened on the tracks, about a half mile north of the Solana Beach Transit Center on N. Buchanan High School student, Kyle Dwelle, 18, was arrested Monday night for allegedly making threats to shoot up the high school., according to a Clovis police news release. A man armed with an axe was killed after a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputy shot him early Sunday in Thermal, authorities said. Deputies responded to a “non-complaint subject armed with an axe” at 3:27 a.m. in the area of Lincoln Street and 66th Avenue, according a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department statement.
A man shot outside of a Carson home was able to run inside before he collapsed and died on Sunday. Authorities were called around 4 p.m. and upon arrival to the 100 block of E. 233rd Street they found a man suffering from what looked like gunshot wounds, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The shooting occurred about 1:50 a.m. at Osborne Street and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, said Norma Eisenman of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section. Officials say they arrested a 15-year-old male juvenile accused of being involved in a brutal hammer attack that occurred last Sunday in Aptos, California. Detectives identified the 15-year-old as one of the attackers and arrested the young man at 10:30 a.m. in Watsonville. He was booked into juvenile hall on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and robbery.

A motorist was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Acton, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday. The crash on the southbound freeway, north of Puritan Mine Road, occurred around 2 p.m. Friday, the CHP reported.
A bicyclist died Thursday afternoon after she collided head-on with an SUV in the Oakland hills, police said Friday. The name of the bicyclist, an Oakland resident, was not released pending notification of relatives. The collision happened about 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the 7000 block of Skyline Boulevard near Elverton Drive.
San Diego police were investigating a threat made to Point Loma High School Friday. A student contacted a counselor around midnight to report the threat posted to Instagram, a school source told FOX 5. School officials decided not to cancel classes at the campus located at 2335 Chatsworth Boulevard.
