A wildfire that has devastated swathes of southern California is on course to become the largest wildfire in the state’s modern history. The Thomas Fire, the biggest of a number of blazes in California, is currently the state’s third largest since reliable records began in 1932, with 270,000 acres burned. The largest, the 2003 Cedar Fire, destroyed 273,246 acres.
Firefighters rescued an unconscious man from a car early Monday morning and at least two people were hospitalized following a head-on crash in Tierrasanta, police said. Two males were taken to a local hospital after being shot Sunday night in Fillmore, authorities said. The shooting was reported at 10:08 p.m. in the 100 block of Third and B streets. The victims were taken to Ventura County Medical Center, authorities said. Their condition was unknown.

A man suspected of attempted murder — who was wanted by West Covina police for an alleged burglary spree that left an older woman critically injured — has been arrested, police said Sunday. Officials say a man was on his way to work when another car pulled up next to him and began shooting at his car. The car was shot near Marks and McKinley. The driver of the car told police he did not recognize the person shooting and began following the car. Officials say the suspect was driving a dark colored SUV when they began firing.
A woman was killed Saturday inside an apartment located at a Santa Ana shopping area, police said. Officers responded to a domestic violence call at 11:33 a.m. on a second-floor apartment at 316 W. Fourth St., according to a news release from the Santa Ana Police Department. The home is located above popular shopping and dining businesses on Calle Cuatro, the Orange County Register reported.
