A Sacramento-area pilot was sentenced on Tuesday to life in prison after he was convicted of traveling to the Philippines to have sex with girls as young as seven years old. The 57-year-old man, Michael Carel Clemans, was found guilty of buying children, attempted travel and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, and conspiracy to travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, KTLA sister station KTXL in Sacramento reported.

A man was struck by a car and seriously injured Monday night in a hit-and-run collision in the Mission Hills area of San Diego. The victim was walking and talking on a cellphone in the number one lane in the 1800 block of Hancock Street just after 7:30 p.m. when a light-colored vehicle, possibly an SUV, exited Interstate 5 and struck him, police said.

After the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old boy in Compton, deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department are still on the hunt for the gunman, officials said Sunday. The shooting happened Saturday night at about 7:44 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Alondra Boulevard, officials said in the hours following the incident. Shots broke out after two men got into an argument in the parking lot of a liquor store, officials later said, confirming the incident was gang-related.
